25 Significant CVEs as MITRE Celebrates 25th Anniversary of CVE

On October 22, MITRE celebrated 25 years of the CVE Program. Formally launched in October 1999, it began with an initial set of 321 records that were finalized in September 1999. As of October 2024, over 240,000 CVEs records have been created.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of CVE, the Security Response Team has handpicked a list of 25 significant CVEs that have been revealed over the last 25 years. These include flaws that have been used in cyber espionage campaigns, by advanced persistent threat (APT) groups, ransomware attacks as well as those used by cybercriminals more broadly.
