Supersedence Improvements for Microsoft Office and Click2Run Summary We are improving our supersedence logic for Office and Microsoft Click2Run (C2R) plugins by moving C2R coverage into new, separate plugins. Doing so will ensure that supersedence is properly handled when this option is selected. Change The structure of Patch Tuesday Office plugins is currently comprised of traditional updates (e.g., KB5002143) and a newer style of product update, referred to as Click2Run (C2R), which are released with no associated KB article. The current plugin supersedence logic only partially handles this mixed-style of plugin. Due to this inconsistency, C2R installations do not properly collapse to the most recent patch when the required option is selected. Splitting the current plugins into two separate plugins, KB and C2R, allows for the supersedence logic already in place to function correctly and alleviates the issue. Office updates with a KB will remain in the existing plugin, and a new plugin will be created for C2R installations. The new C2R plugins will be located in the script family “Windows” instead of the “Windows : Microsoft Bulletins” where they currently reside. This change is consistent with the family currently being used for other product updates without an associated KB (e.g., Visual Studio Code, App Store Software, Microsoft Edge (Chromium), etc.). Impact Customers may notice historical scans may not trend with the new plugin IDs for the affected C2R products. Improved supersedence collapsing logic. Target Release Date 10 June 2022
