Enhanced Windows and Windows File Content Error Reporting

Plugins

21156 - Windows Compliance

24760 - Windows File Contents Compliance

Target Release Date

24 Sept 2019

Change

Currently, compliance plugins will report errors encountered through debug logs and background processes. This change moves the error reporting to the forefront as a compliance check. This enhancement will allow customers to quickly pinpoint a variety of error conditions found within the Windows and Windows File Contents compliance plugins. This enhancement will also import successfully into Tenable.SC as part of standard Scan Result findings.

Examples of compliance check errors:

Impact

Customers should expect improved error reporting for a variety of errors encountered.

In the past, customers may have encountered these errors appearing in the "Vulnerability" tab in Nessus. Also, some customers would see an entry in Tenable.SC with the compliance result error that would generate a random plugin ID, and contain raw XML-style data related to the error. The changes updates both conditions in the previously mentioned plugins. Customers should expect improved error reporting for a variety of errors encountered.

Additional Notes

Expect to see more highlights in the future as we roll out this new enhanced error reporting across all compliance plugins.
